3 Red Velvet 4th of July Treats

On Memorial Day weekend I went to the Roundabout Diner and ordered one of their specials for the day; red, white, and blue French toast. This was topped with strawberries, blueberries, and white chocolate, and it was heavenly! I usually don’t order French toast for breakfast, but the theme sucked me right in. And it got be pondering the red, white, and blue theme more for 4th of July.

When I thought of red foods, I immediately thought of red velvet cake. Bake’n Joy makes a red velvet cake mix that eliminates the cake making process for your busy chefs, but tastes and feels like homemade! You probably haven’t done anything special with your red velvet cake mix since Valentine’s day, but here’s how you can incorporate it into your menu again:

Red, White, and Blueberry Cupcakes

  • Bake your Bake N Joy red velvet cupcakes in your cupcake tins as normal in white cupcake papers
  • Gently pile a generous helping of your favorite whipped cream or white frosting on top
  • Drop a few blueberries on top (or even some blue sprinkles)

And you’ve turned a few simple ingredients into a pleasantly patriotic treat! Photo credit.

Red & White Striped Cake

  • Bake 2 layers of your red velvet Bake N Joy cake
  • Use your favorite white cake for the middle layer
  • In between, use white frosting as the glue, OR you could use a few drops of blue food coloring for layers of blue as the glue!
  • Neatly cover the entire cake with a few layers of white frosting.
  • Top with strawberries and blueberries for a refreshing burst of color

Your guests will never believe you made this in your own kitchen! Photo credit.

Fruits & Stripes Trifle

  • Bake your red velvet cake like normal, in any pan, it doesn’t have to be pretty because it’s going to be torn up!
  • Break it up into pieces and place in bottom of your trifle glass
  • Spread whipped cream on top, then add blueberries and strawberries
  • Repeat until you’ve reached the top of the trifle dish!
  • Top it all with tons of blueberries and strawberries

Put this on display for all your guests to see! Photo credit.
